Microsoft Word is one of the popular text processing application available. Though there are many alternate apps are available, Word is an ultimate document app due to universal use. Slow performance of Microsoft Word is quite common on many computers and this could be caused by many factors. Here are ways to solve the performance problem.
Method #1: Delete Normal.dot File
Microsoft Word uses template files to create documents. Normal.dot is the global template file that Word uses for creating a blank document file. This essentially means, the template file is always in use when Word is in use. Word also stores all style related settings, such as font size and font type in this template. So, problematic or corrupted ‘Normal.dot’ template can cause slow performance when opening or closing documents.
An effective solution is to delete the Nomal.dot or Normal.dotm (for Word 2007 and Word 2010). Word will recreate a fresh Normal.dot file when opened. But it is a bit tricky task, since Normal.dot or Normal.dotm file is a hidden file. So first enable the option in Windows to show hidden files. Then save all your open documents and close Microsoft Word.
The file location may different depending upon your Windows version. Generally you can find the Normal.dot (Word 2007) or Normal.dotm (Word 2007/10) or Normal.dotx (Word 2013 and above) file in the location C:User[Username]appdataMicrosoftTemplates. On Mac, go to Finder and press ‘Command + Shift + G’ to open ‘Go to folder’ box. Enter the location ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/.
Locate the file in your PC or Mac and simple delete it. Now, open Microsoft Word to create a new Normal.dot/dotm/dotx file.
Check whether this helps to solve the slow processing issues in Microsoft Word.

Method #2: Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration
In some cases, when you type on a Word document, it lags for a few seconds or longer from the moment you press the key. This will badly impair your productivity and cause so much delay. Newer Office versions use hardware graphics acceleration to speed up the performance. However, slow computers often have limited hardware resources, which make Word less responsive. Follow these steps: Clash of lords 2 hero vault.
Restart Microsoft Word and verify whether the problem has been resolved. If Microsoft Word still performs slowly, it may be a good idea to perform changes in registry. Follow these steps:

Method #3: Install Latest Updates
Microsoft Word is one of the most often used programs. Any small problem could have a big effect on our productivity. If Microsoft Word seems to react poorly to any command to process a task, you may need to do look for updating to the latest service pack. The latest service pack may provide you with bug fixes and performance optimization. Microsoft releases service pack regularly, generally they are installed automatically if you have auto update enabled. Otherwise you need to check and update them manually. Often, by installing a new service pack, you can regain lost performance.

Office 2019 Windows 8
On Mac, you can simply drag the application file to trash bin and reinstall with the installation file.
Method #5: Delete “~.dot” or “~.doc” Files
These are temporary files and they are indicated by the ~ (tilde) sign at the beginning. If you accumulate a lot of these temporary files, Word would become slow and sluggish. Follow these steps:
Open Microsoft Word and make sure that the problem has been resolved
Method #6: Optimize Document Files
Often, less optimized document files cause slow performance. Check whether your document has plenty of embedded macros and remove any of them if possible. Many people also put high quality pictures with large resolution inside documents. You need to optimize the pictures by changing the dimension that matches the size of the page. You may also use Adobe Photoshop or Snagit to save these images in optimized format to reduce the file sizes without sacrificing the quality too much.
Method #7: Open Word in Safe Mode
One of the reason for slow Word app is the corrupted documents. When you try to open corrupted document, Word will show the message like “Microsoft Word is not responding” indicating the problem. You can choose “Restart the program” option to cancel the current operation and try to reopen the file again.
If that does not help, then press “Win + R” keys and open Run Command box. Type “winword /safe” to open Word in safe mode. This will help you to speedup the document as Word will disable extensions and other unnecessary stuffs in safe mode. Sometimes, Word will also suggest to open a document in safe mode. Choose “Yes” to check whether the safe mode can help in improving the performance at least when processing that document.

Some times people share the locked file in chat, emails or SharePoint. When you try to open locked file, Word will show you the “File in Use” warning and ask you to choose the action.
You may notice, slow response time in Word when you open and read locked documents. We recommend you to open the locked file in “Read Only” mode to open it faster. Otherwise, you can request the owner to share the file without edit lock.
Conclusion

One common problem faced on many computers is the slow launching or termination of MS Word. This problem is usually due to a corrupted or problematic 'Normal.dot' template. The 'Normal.dot' template is the location where word saves all the default settings (e.g. font type, font size etc.) and it is used with every word file –blank or not- you open.
This tutorial fixes the following problem(s) of Word: Word is to slow to start, load documents or close.
To solve these problems find the word templates location folder and delete the 'Normal.dot' (or 'Normal.dotm' if you have Word 2007/2010) file. To do this follow these steps:
1. With your MS Word application closed, go to Start > Run
2. At the 'Run command box' copy and paste one of the following commands according to your operating system version and then press 'OK'
a. For Windows XP:
%USERPROFILE%Application DataMicrosoftTemplates
b. For Windows Vista / Windows 7 /Windows 8 & Windows 10:
%appdata%MicrosoftTemplates
2. Locate the file called 'Normal.dot' if you have Word 2003, or 'Normal.dotm' if you have Word 2007 or 2010, or 'Normal.dotx' if you have Word 2013 and delete it. Don't worry about the deletion. Next time you open MS Word, a new, clean Normal.dot or Normal.dotm, Normal.dotx will be created.
Now open MS Word and enjoy writing!

Q: After sticking with Office 2003 for the last decade and a half, I decided to take the jump into Office 365 and installed it earlier this week. But after a few days, I’m seriously considering uninstalling and going back to old reliable Office 2003 because the Office 365 apps are so darn slow.
Word takes two or three minutes to open. I literally click it and walk away from my computer because I can’t stand just waiting and waiting for it to open. Once it finally opens it works, but is a bit sluggish. I never had this issue with 2003.
What do you think? Should I give up and go back to 2003? Or is there something I can do to speed up 365?

A: There are quite a few things that could be causing that slow performance. For starters, how fast is your internet connectivity?
While Office 365 is installed locally on your computer, it is designed to work in the cloud. If you’re storing files on the OneDrive cloud storage and your connectivity is slow that could impact your performance.
Another possibility is that your computer is short on available memory. While your computer has 8 gigabytes of physical memory, the file you attached to your email shows only 1.47 gigabytes of available memory.
It may be that other programs or possibly malware are chewing up memory, causing Windows to have to write to “virtual memory,” which means storing application data on your disc drive. That’s a slow process.

Q: For the past few months, my email account keeps labeling anything from Nextdoor as spam. I contacted support for Nextdoor.com and was told my Nextdoor account had been flagged, since my email provider (Outlook) had labeled Nextdoor emails as spam. But a support rep named Seth unflagged it and I again started receiving neighborhood news from Nextdoor; to ensure it didn’t happen again, I added three email addresses for Nextdoor to the safe-senders list of my email account.
However, now even when I’ve finished reading something from Nextdoor and send it to the delete folder, it will end up in the junk folder as spam. When I’ve tried to contact Outlook about this, the support rep Yamini S. hasn’t been any help. His emails originate from [email protected].
I use Hotmail.com (via Outlook). I’ve also lost some other news sources delivered to my inbox. It’s as if Microsoft doesn’t want to support Hotmail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A: Judging from the email address you’re using to seek support, I wouldn’t be pointing a finger of blame at Microsoft. HelpShift is a third-party, subscription-support service.
Also, your email provider is apparently not Outlook. Outlook is the client you’re using to access your email provider, which is Hotmail. You could also access those emails through the web-based Hotmail client. The key thing to keep in mind is that both Outlook and Hotmail have junk-mail settings that could be flagging your Nextdoor emails as spam. You might whitelist Nextdoor emails — specifying them as emails you want to receive — in one Outlook but if it’s still being flagged by Hotmail you won’t receive it. You would need to go to the web-based Hotmail client and configure its junk-mail feature as well.

Ever since Microsoft introduced Office 365, a large number of PC users are buying subscription based Office 365 instead of going for traditional Office versions. One of the benefits of Office 365 is that the user always gets to use the latest version of Microsoft Office.
Although Office 2010 and Office 2013 are compatible with Windows 10, most users are using Office 365 and Office 2016 on Windows 10.
Repair your Office 365 installed on Windows 10
There is an official Office 365 troubleshooting tool available to common Office 365 issues but it might not be able to resolve all Office 365 problems and errors.
